This morning, several members of the CQR team had the privilege of participating in the ‘Reduce Before You Produce” event held at Mark Miller Subaru in Salt Lake City. After spending a half hour enjoying a wonderful breakfast prepared by the dealership’s onsite café, we fed our minds by listening to a program presented by Jeff Miller, as well as presenters from Clark’s Quality Roofing, Hunt Electric, and more. The main purpose of the event was to discuss ways sustainability can be incorporated into everyday business practices.
The most unique aspect of the day was a “reverse case study”. The dealership is installing a new roof and solar panels. The speakers, as well as the attendees, discussed expectations of future energy savings, lower usage of natural resources, and sustainability benefits. These topics will be measured from the beginning to the end of the installation. The information and data will be used to refine predictions of savings and benefits for future projects.
Finally, the morning was made complete by a guided tour of their facility. The tour began with a bang. The lobby utilizes daylight harvesting technology to lower the amount of electricity needed to power the lights. As we continued on, we were shown the new bay doors in the shop. These doors open in 2.5 seconds and close just as fast. This results in a significant reduction in the loss of warm air in the winter and cool air in the summer. Lastly, we were taken outside and shown the area being re-roofed. The combination of the new reflective roof, along with the new solar technology will greatly increase the amount of energy captured from the sun.
Great food! Great insight! Great fun! Thanks Mark Miller Subaru!
